In China the month of May was a time to honor the mugwort plant. In addition to the herb's abilities to intensify prophecy, particularly when using a crystal ball, it has powerful protective qualities. Everyone can use a little protection from the daily barrage of negative thoughts- the kind that build until they create a hundred minor problems that wear at your patience and nerves.

After the cutting or purchasing the mugwort, take it to your altar to dedicate it to protection of your person, house, and family. This is best done on a Full Moon, but any time will do in a pinch. Hold your hands over the herb and say, "May your power grow and your strength flow. Protect me everywhere I go."

If you are fortunate enough to be able to find or buy whole mugwort branches with leaves, you can put bouquets in small vases around your house or even hang them over the doors. The ground mugwort can be stuffed into little cloth bags to hang in the car, put in your desk drawer at work, or place in your pocket or purse.
