The month of September is the time of Autumn Equinox. In many cultures, Moon deities were honored at this time, such as the god Thoth of ancient Egypt. Known as the ultimate magician and Lord of the Holy Words, Thoth helps with learning magic, casting spells, and divination.

To call upon the Egyptian god Thoth, decorate your altar or sacred space with objects that remind you of the Moon. Use white or silver candles, clear crystal balls, quartz crystals, silver jewelry, and portrayals of the Moon. Put a glass of some clear liquid and a few pale round sugar cookies on the altar. Use a statue or picture of the ibis-headed Thoth if you have one. Also bring whatever divination toll you prefer- tarot cards, runes, crystals, whatever. Before beginning your divination, stand facing the altar and say, "Ancient Thoth, give me wisdom to understand this reading. Show me the truth."

Just before you do the reading, raise the glass in a toast to the god and take three drinks. Also enjoy the cookies. Any part of the reading you don't understand may be made clear in later dreams.
