Lammas or Lugnasad
August 2

This is an important harvest holiday. and literally means: The "Feast of Bread." Lammas honors the Harvest Mother at the beginning of the month of August (named for the Roman Goddess Juno Augusta). In ancient times, in many countries, Lammas was celebrated with dancing and games.

The first of three harvests on the Wheel of the Year, Lammas is a cross-quarter day, which means it falls directly in between two astrological/astronomical Holidays -- in this case in between the Midsummer Solstice and the Autumnal Equinox. This is a time to contemplate your own personal harvest and give thanks.

For anybody who knows how to bake bread, this is the day to do it! We all celebrate the harvest with seasonal vegatables and whole grains. If you don't bake, buy the most delicious whole grain bread you can find and share it with friends.
